Cup Washers – Types, Advantages and Materials

We are using washer systems to provide much better load distribution over the workpiece. So, their use of them is very important in screw and bolt applications. There are different types of washer systems that provide different advantages. One of these types is the cup washers. Here, we will take a look at the general properties of these systems.

What are Cup Washers?

Cup washers.

The Cup washer is the type of washer that we are using for the fastener assemblies. Instead of the regular washers, they have a cup share that provides much more secure tightening and vibration absorption capabilities. Also, we know the cup washers as countersunk washers make it possible to attachment of the countersunk fastener geometries to the countersunk holes. This is another important feature of the cup washer system.

So, if you are using mush more tight fasteners with a fit appearance, we recommend you to use the cup washer systems in general.

Types of Cup Washers

There are different types of them that we are using in different applications.

  • Flanged Washer: In the structure of this flanged washer application, there is a small flange that is obtained with a little twist. This flange provides a much better distribution of load.
  •  Oversized Cup Washers: We generally use these oversized washer systems at the end of the tubes and pipes.
  •  Finishing Cup Washers: They have a much thicker design. They are very good in the sturdier appearance of the countersunk washer systems.
  •  Plastic Cup Washers: These are the cup washers that we are using in electrical applications. They provide very good electrical insulation. And also they are very good to resist moisture.

General Materials of Cup Washers

Also, you can find these types of systems with different materials according to the selections that you have.

  • 316 Stainless Steel: They are one of t most used types of material in fasteners. They have very good resistance to corrosive environments such as salt water. And also they are magnetic.
  •  18-8 Stainless Steel: They are nearly the same as the 316 stainless steel material. They are both very common materials that we use in fastener manufacturing.
  •  Nickel-Plated Steel: Nickel coating provides very good corrosion and rust resistance. And they are every goo for decorative applications.
  •  Brass: They are renown for their corrosion resistance in wet environments. They are nonmagnetic and electrically conduction.
  •  Black-Oxide Coating: This is another coating application that we are applying to steel materials to obtain better corrosion resistance in dry environments.

Last Words

These are the general points that we can state about the cup washers. You can choose one of these materials and types according to your application.
