Audi Emblem – Different Designs and Meaning
Audi is one of the most iconic German car manufacturers. It is established in 1909 and right now, it is the part of Volkswagen Group. Audi has a history of more than 100 years. And through the years, they used different emblems. You can find the different Audi emblem designs used throughout history and also different designs that are used today.

Audi Emblem after 1909 First Launch
This is the first emblem of Audi that was designed and used first. You can see a diagonal Audi inscription with an oval design. The color of this logo is dark grey. In general, the other car brands were using these kinds of classical designs.
Audi Badge
This is the badge that was used for a very short period. You can see a 1 that is inscribed on an inverted triangle. And there is an Audi scription that is written with a classical alphabet. The color of this design is black as you see in the photo.
1909-1932 Audi Emblem
The badge that we stated above is changed to this later design. You can see the Audi mark inside the triangle is changed. And you are probably familiar with this Audi style.
1932 – 1949 The Birth of Iconic Four Ring
All of us know the iconic Audi emblem in general. It includes four rings. This is the first design that includes the four-ring. As you see inside the things there are different brands. This is because, Audi is bought and united with the other 3 brands which as DKW, Horch, and Automobile car companies. And each company with Audi is represented by one ring. So this is the story behind the well-known four-ring design.
1949 – 1969 Auto Union
After 1949, the four-ring design is simplified. Also, the emblems are removed from the badge. You can see the inscription Auto Union that makes the collaboration much more simple.
1969 Audi NSU Emblem
This is a logo that was published by Audi in 1969 with an NSU description. It is a very simple design as you see above.
1969-1995 Ring Design
This is the first basic 4 ring design that we know as the Audi emblem. As you see, four rings are engaged to each other. The color is blue which represents strength and confidence in general.
1969-1995 The Second Logo
This is another logo that Audi use in this period along with the four-ring design. As you see there is an Audi scripture made with custom sans-serif with a black oval background. We generally know this Audi emblem from racing sports.
1978-1995 Brighter Design
To create a more bright and more radiant Audi emblem, the one above is designed in this way. The background is turned to red and there is a double white and red outline that makes the emblem straight.
1995-2009 Audi Emblem
Most of us know this emblem. Four ring design with gray shading and there is a classical Audi scripture below it in red color.
2009-2016 Emblem
You can spot the differences in this emblem. The type of lettering is changed to sans-serif and aligned to the left side. And also the rings are bigger than usual.
2016 – Today
In these years, there is a great simplification of the general car brand logos along with Audi. You can see above, the four-ring design is only in black making it very easy to recognize.
